Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about how PlayNova works, where the games come from and who to contact.

Do I need to download anything to play?

No. Every game on PlayNova runs directly in your web browser using HTML5. There is nothing to install, no plugin to enable and no account to create.

Is PlayNova free to use?

Yes. Every game on the site is free to play. The site is supported by advertising and by the revenue share attached to the game licences described below.

Who owns the games on this site?

The developers do. PlayNova does not develop or own any of the games it publishes. Each game is made by an independent studio or developer who holds the copyright in it, and we publish it under licence.

Where do the games come from?

They are supplied through GameMonetize, a distribution network that licenses HTML5 games to publisher websites on behalf of the developers who submit them. Every game page names the provider and shows the provider's reference for that title, so anyone can trace where a game came from.

I am a developer and I think my game is here without permission. What do I do?

Email dmca@playnova.online. That is a monitored mailbox read by a person, and our DMCA page sets out exactly what a notice needs to contain and what we do when one arrives. We normally acknowledge within two business days and remove the game while we investigate.

Why are there no star ratings or play counts?

Because we do not collect that data from visitors yet, and we are not willing to display numbers we cannot stand behind. If we add ratings later they will come from real visitor activity and we will say so.

Why does a game not load until I click play?

Games load from the provider's servers inside an embedded frame, and a third-party frame can set its own cookies and see your IP address. We hold that request back until you explicitly press play, so if you do not start a game, the provider gets nothing. It also makes pages load a lot faster.

Can I play on my phone?

Many of the games work well on mobile, and each game page says whether the game is built for portrait or landscape play so you know what to expect before you start. A few titles need a keyboard and are marked as desktop-friendly.

How is my game progress saved?

Most HTML5 games save progress in your browser's local storage, which means the save lives on the device you played on. Clearing your browser data, or switching to another device or browser, will lose it. PlayNova has no accounts, so we do not store progress on your behalf.

Can I submit my own game?

Yes, we are glad to hear from independent developers. Email contact@playnova.online with a link to where the game is playable, and please tell us how it is licensed for distribution, since we publish only through licensed channels.

A game is broken or something on a page is wrong. Who do I tell?

Email contact@playnova.online with the page address. Games are hosted by third parties and can be changed or withdrawn without warning, so a broken embed is something we genuinely want reported.

How many games are on the site?

There are currently 25 games, each with its own written page. The catalogue is deliberately small: we would rather publish a short list of games we can describe properly than a large one we cannot.
